Also had an idea of something the skogsrå do in the au, they disguise themselves with illusions, but the reason they only appear to lost humans is because they need feelings of distress and such that you'd feel while lost to make the illusions

Sigtryggr x Uhtred's Daughter Headcanons Part I

Disclaimer: She is Uhtred and Gisela's daughter, a year older than Stiorra. Because of this I don't see the harm in naming her instead of calling her 'y/n', because I doubting 9th century times of Saxons and Danes with Dane parents she will be named Ashley or Cameron or Soledad, most of these languages didn't even exist yet.

With that rant aside, I am giving her the Norse name Kelda, and because she is Uhtred and Gisela's daughter she's going to resemble them.

Kelda is the oldest child of Uhtred and Gisela

When their mother left for Valhalla she took on the maternal role.

She looks after her father because he cannot look after himself when it comes to eating and getting enough sleep.

She encouraged Young Uhtred's dream of following the path of the nailed God, and was always trying to convince her father he must be supportive, and that he has that rebellious nature he inherited from him, and being a Rebel in this family means being a Christian

As much as she wanted to smother Stiorra for whining and complaining about being stuck with the children and in hiding, she refrained and understood how frustrating it could be. She prayed to Snotra at least ten times a day for guidance and wisdom.

She needed Stiorra though, for she's more of a warrior than Kelda.

Stiorra does what sisters do and taunt Kelda, saying she's too soft for a Dane and they would never want a flowery wife, Claiming she's better for a Saxon man.

Kelda rolled her eyes but she did worry.

She spends many time in the forest, worshipping the the huldrefolk, the skogsrå, Freya, and the nature deities. Often found dancing ritual circles outside, often naked.

She is very beautiful but doesn't see it herself, a womanly soft figure she resents, wanting to be petite like Stiorra like her mother was. Her breasts could hardly ever even be confined by her dresses.

And how she wished her hair were smoothe like silk like Stiorra and her mother.

Instead wild curls that tangled down to her wide hips was what Kelda possessed. A golden brown color amd usually adorn with flowers or prettily plaited. She washed it everyday with a lye soap she made with mint and lavender herbs, the lye is what caused her light brown hair to have a goldness to it. She would bathe in honeysuckle oil water she made as well and wash her face four times a day with chamomile soap and water. She dedicated these grooming times and beauty spells to Freyja.

Stiorra felt it to be silly and vain of Kelda, but these routines kept her constantly tumultuous life going, to being Uhtred's daughter, a little sane.

Kelda sewed herself dresses usually a similar color to cornflower, it was as her favorite as well as earthy blush tones, all made her hair color more pronounced, looked lovely against her sun-kissed skin (since she was always outside), made her very fully rosy lips appear more rosy, and her warm doe brown eyes appear almost golden.

She used to be very fond of Finan, and would learn Gaelic from him , but when she became older she realized how silly she was and felt nothing for him but familial love.

When she, Lady Aelswith, Stiorra, and Aethelstan were kidnapped, she was very afraid but only for the others not herself.

She vowed to do anything to protect them.

The stares of Haestens men did make her weary though, the way they'd comment on her sweet smell or her soft hair, or comment on her breasts. Stiorra squeezed her hand when she saw her sister tear up in fear of being taken by force.

But miraculously the journey to Winchester, or what was left of it, she was unharmed they all were.

When they arrived, she felt ill of the wild pregnant shieldmaiden, the Goddesses warned her she could feel it. But she stood in front of Stiorra and Aethelstan protectively looking brave and showing no weakness.

Catching the eye of the warlord, Lord Sigtryggr of Ireland.

His icy blue eyes had the most difficult time removing from this maiden who was obviously Freyja herself in the flesh.

He looked stoic to all in the room but all he could think of focus on, was how well her developed body filled out her torn blue dress, looking like a tempting huldrakall with her thick blood colored lips beckoning him like a spell, wild and beautiful goddess like hair with a color that reminded him of the sun lighting the earth, wanting to smell the locks. He looked into her wide, innocent eyes, lidded with long eyelashes and a pretty dark shade of the earth. Her cheeks are round and rosy despite her sun-kissed skin and Sigtryggr hardly recognized himself, for no maiden has ever made him feel this way. Unable to breathe, forgetting his plan and reason.

Brida demanded them to prove that they are Danes and asked the other girl who Frigga's handmaiden is, he was impressed with her correct answer proving her Dane heritage. She insulted the beauty and called her a Saxon outright. But she surprised Sigtryggr and all in the room when her sweet, soft voice spoke back with firmness. "I am a Dane like my sister, I worship Frigga and Freyja, I dance in midsommar for Sól and braid flower wreaths, I give myself to Freyja's Magick, pray at her alter. And right now I look to Snotra for guidance!"

His heart never raced so fast, and Brida seemed to recognize the girls claiming them to be the Dane-Slayer's children.

Brida wanted to throw the beauty to the men but Sigtryggr didn't let her, calmly demanding her presence with him.

Little did he know, she too could hardly take her eyes off of him as well.

Halloween: Swedish Folklore

I didn’t really know what to do here for Halloween. I could have told you about the comic book Tales from the Crypt or another horror story and then I thought it might be nicer if I told you a little about my adopted country, Sweden. So I decided to introduce you to some of the creatures from Swedish folklore.

According to ancient Nordic beliefs, Swedish nature is populated by supernatural beings, some are useful if they are treated with the deference that suits their rank, others freeze your blood. Before any outings or walks in the woods, near a river or a lake, make sure you recognize trolls, älvorna, the bewitching Skogsrå or the terrible Gluppson – a forewarned hiker is worth two…

Trolls and älvor are the best known but also the most discreet.

Trolls, wild creatures of the primeval forests, live in families in underground galleries, dug under blocks of stone. They can become very old. To protect their secrets, trolls use Galdrar runes and incantations. Thanks to these magical songs, an influential troll can unleash a storm, sharpen a sword or destroy armor. The power of a galdar facilitates births. The venal nature of trolls pushes them to steal newborns and exchange them for their own young, troublesome and capricious, the bortbyting, which inspired a novel of the same name by Selma Lagerlöf. A troll in love with a human being arranges for the object of his desire to get lost in the forest or the mountain to be bergtagen. By walking in good weather, you risk nothing, trolls hate light and sun.

The elves or älvorna, on the other hand, are supernatural and collective female miniature beings, dressed all in white, who at dawn and dusk dance over meadows, fields or mossy places, leaving a ring of abnormally green grass or a crown of mushrooms. The älvor protect women and their matrix function. Hyllemor is an alva that, promoting the flowering of the elderberry, gives it its inimitable perfume.

The rå, unpredictable spirits of nature, reign and fear

Skogsrået, the Lady of the Forest, a supernaturally seductive female creature, recognizable by her well-hidden tail, reigns over the woods and those who live there. With a changeable mood, the one also called Hulda can help the hunter or take revenge on the woodcutter who refuses her advances. She seduces the lost hiker and abuses him to the point of exhaustion.

The Absolute Horror: Gluppson the Glutton

Virgil and Dee’s meeting for the horror au?

Everyone knows when someone who doesn't belong enters the forest grove. Something in the air changes, and the Ringmaster gives life to the calliope that otherwise stands silent within the remains of the collapsed tent.

The first note of music makes everyone come alive with manic energy. Dee shifts into a small animal each time, hiding themselves either in the folds of Remus' clothing or in the surrounding trees. After their lips were sown shut, they want nothing to do with the lively circus nights.

Virgil is more careful than those that has come before him. He hears the first tone of unexplained music and turns to leave. It's already too late; he comes face to face with a skogsrå who smiles prettily at him and tries to usher him towards the tent.

Once one of the circus folk has their eyes on you, you're at their mercy until dawn. They won't let you leave before the Ringmaster has decided that the show is over, and your memories of the night are meddled with.

Of course, it's not a real circus, and not a real show. Ringmaster may be the name, but only because an abandoned circus is the home. Had the home been different, then so would the name.

Dee watches from their place around Remus' arm, having taken the form of a rough green snake. They would escort the stranger out of the forest if they didn't fear the punishment.

Once dawn arrives, Virgil feels sick and disoriented. Someone is leading him through the forest, and all he can see when he closes his eyes is the image of a pocketwatch swinging back and forth. He can feel his phone in his hand, although he swears that he must have dropped it at some point.

Remus is the one leading Virgil out, being one of the few willing to get close to town once the sun is starting to come up. Dee is still around his arm, although long since asleep.

It's an impulsive decision really, but Remus unwinds the snake from his arm and wraps his friend around the dazed stranger. He'll take the punishment when the Ringmaster realises that Dee is missing; it'll be worth it if Dee is able to stay away.

Remy finds Virgil about half an hour after Remus has left. Ey have always been in the town, so ey knew what to expect. If it hadn't already been too late when ey realised how stupid it was of em to let Virgil enter the forest grove, ey would have come earlier.

Remy takes Virgil home, not noticing the snake that has been wrapped around one of Virgil's limbs.

Virgil and Dee's first real meeting is when Virgil wakes up some hours later, and the movement stirs Dee from their rest. They panic, and shapeshift into a bat, flying up towards the ceiling. If not for the bright red stitches, Virgil would just have thought that he had a bat in his room.

Then all the memories of the night comes rushing in, although they're blurry and abstract.

As far as first meetings go, it could definitely have been better.

And Dee might be away from the circus for now, but they aren't truly free from it. Not yet.

What are the differences between elves, dwarves, leprechauns and goblins? I find them all confusing.

Well, to begin with. Elfs and Dwarfs both come to us from Germanic and Nordic Mythology. The hardest group to define is the Elfs. For though they have changed much in contemporary fantasy, they are not very well defined in older works such as the Poetic Edda. They are described as being human-like and beautiful, and also as being somewhat powerful in magic. There is a strong indication that they were connected with the Æsir, or even that they were one and the same. Over time the idea of elves was fragmented and changed as cultures adapted it. Thus we have all sorts of variants that include Nixies, Nisse, Fe,  Skogsrå,  Skogsfru, Tomte, Vetta, Huldra, and Huldufólk that are all thought to have partial origins in the old Norse Elves. Things are further complicated by Tolkien’s adaption of Elves for his novels “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit” which vastly changed and influenced the public conception of Elfs, or sometimes Elves, for decades to come. Dwarfs are a little simpler. They are said, in the Poetic Edda, that they originated from the blood of the being Brimir and the bones of Bláinn, though the Prose Edda details an alternate origin where maggots in the flesh of Ymir were granted the gift of reason by the gods. They are often described as poets of considerable talent, sexual predators after various goddesses, and the creators of powerful and magical items. They are primarily associated with metalsmithing and death, and like trolls in contemporary fantasy they are said to transform into stone if they get caught out in the sun. There is no mention in the old Norse sources of them being short, however several specific ones were described as being ugly by human standards. When the Germanic peoples were Christianized the dwarfs were still used in much folklore and stories and became smaller beings who were associated with mining and smithing, and occasionally healing. While a few dwarf women were mentioned in old Norse sources, they simply seem to have been passed over. The most notable exception is in the Swedish ballad "Herr Peder och Dvärgens Dotter" a dwarf’s daughter is plays the role of a supernatural temptress, indicating that she is fairly beautiful despite the common depiction of dwarfs as ugly old men with beards.

If you could make up a legend about anything (like where you’re from, about your family, anything) what would it be?     There have been tales about changelings, children of faeries or trolls who have been placed in the cradle in stead of the human child. There have been stories about the lives of these supernatural children, how they differ from humans, their oddness, their particular nature, or even how there might be a link between changelings and autistic people.     But not many talk about the human changeling. You don’t hear the story about the child that was snatched away by the faeries or trolls, nor do you hear about their lives among them, how they were brought into a life of magic, a nature different from the one humans live in, a life of wonder and opportunities.     You don’t hear about the human changelings who were taken away from all that and put back among human kind, feeling out of place in this world of expectations and presumptions.     Maybe that’s why I still feel out of place. 2. If you had to pick a supernatural creature to hunt you - which one?     Oh man, one to hunt me? I’m terrified of being hunted, but I think I could try and deal with a skogsrå, or sjörå. We could probably reason with each other. 3. Favourite song right this second?     Right now I’m pretty sure it’s Blumenkranz from Kill la Kill, it’s such an iconic soundtrack, and very original too. 4. Favourite actual legend?     You are making me suffer here. But if we take one that’s been one of my favourites for a long time I’m gonna say Robin Hood. I’m also partial to Bloody Mary. 5. Tell me about what a perfect breakfast is to you.     Someplace calm and inside, but with big glass doors open to the outside, the sun shining, but there’s a chilly morning breeze still, the dew still clinging to the grass in the shadow. On the table there’s bacon, newly made mini baguettes, scones, pancakes, juice and milk to drink, hot chocolate with whipped cream. Waffles too. Maybe waffles instead of pancakes.     Alternatively with a storm going on outside, the lights turned down low, hearing the wind and rain thrash about, but knowing that you’re safe inside with good food and company, possibly after running around and dancing in the rain for a while.     Mostly though a perfect breakfast to me is to spend time with good friends and good food, in a place we all like, having fun together! 11. The few wardens of the nature that still exist usually live among humans unnoticed, blending into the population. But now someone is targeting the rå, killing them off one by one. Otabek has been leading a solitary life in the wild, but he is asked to find Yuri Plisetsky, a skogsrå who is completely unaware that he is not human and has vanished from foster care. Somehow, Otabek needs to find Yuri before they do, and then teach him how to control his powers before he accidentally causes damage to himself or his surroundings.

Then there’s also the matter of dealing with the shady Agency that is meddling in the lives of the rå, as well as dealing with the hunters who seem determined to wipe every last rå off the face of the earth… no big deal, right?

(Or, the present-day AU that happily mixes inaccurate Scandinavian folklore with made-up fantasy elements.)

Camp Camp Monster au

so i know just about everyone has their own monster au but uh i wanted to make one of my own!

i’m kinda nerdy about mythology and folklore so i had a lot of fun looking up different creatures to make my au unique!

long put under cut because i also have notes on what creature the characters are and why i chose them!

First, all characters related to Camp Campbell are Hybrid (or crossbreed), and the camp is basically a refuge for monsters, albeit in different ways for each character. I can go into that in another post. Also, as I started making this post I realized I missed Kevin and Miss Priss, but otherwise I have just about every character, excluding (most of) the townspeople.

David - Werewolf/Vampire Hybrid

I know werewolf is a pretty common choice for David, and that’s because it’s cute. Originally David was a Werewolf/Werecat Hybrid, but then I thought it’d be funny for him to be half Vampire because it’d conflict with his love for being out in the sun. 

Gwen - Witch Faun

Witch!Gwen was always going to be a thing, then I read a fic where she was some kind of Faun and loved that idea. I can link to the fic when I find it, but I’m gonna finish this long post first.

Cameron - Trickster

I didn’t know what to have Cameron as for the longest time because I felt that nothing fit well enough. I also wasn’t sure what his role would be, and I still don’t. However, having Cameron as a Trickster just seems like a good fit considering all the shit he gets up to.

Jasper - (Ghost) Werecat/Werewolf

So, of course Jasper is going to be a Ghost, and I always had him as some sort of Were-creature. First, he was just a Werewolf who eventually turned into a Ghost, but when I changed David’s type I felt that Jasper could take on his original idea.

Also, originally Jasper wasn’t going to have a real role in the au, but god if I don’t love the boy enough to actually keep him around.

Quartermaster - Homunculus

So, yeah, having the Quartermaster as a Undead seemed pretty fitting, and I couldn’t think of anything else. Then, while still researching I decided some kind of artificial life fit pretty well, especially with my headcanons for the QM in canon.

Max - Human

Yes, Max is the outlier in all of Camp Campbell. Max is the only Human. The idea here is that Max’s parents didn’t care enough about what camp they were sending him to that they accidentally ended up sending him to a camp that was secretly for monsters.

Neil - Harpy/Ziz

Neil with feathers just has ideas to it that I like. With his anxiety it gives way for crazy molting and giving him something to pull at. His mother is a Harpy, and his father is a Ziz. The Ziz is a creature from Jewish mythology that is described as a griffon-like bird; in the mythology it’s described as having a wingspan large enough to cover the sun, but Neil’s wings are nothing like that due to his Harpy side.

Nikki - Rougarou/Dryad

So...Werewolf!Nikki is a favorite, but I didn’t want to go that obvious...and went with a different version of the same thing. A simple explanation is that Rougarous are Werewolves from Cajun folklore, the name taken from loup-garou, which is the French word for a a Werewolf. I got Dryad from a fic as well, I think it’s the same one that had Faun!Gwen but I could be remembering wrong; it also ties in with her history in the Flower Scouts.

Dolph - Alp/Brownie

I always knew I wanted Dolph to be something like Brownie. Why? Because I think the idea of him being a household spirit is cute, I don’t know why but I just do. An Alp, is a night demon that is often likened to a Vampire; and its also some kind of Elf, which is just another kind of household spirit.

Nerris - Elf/Human

Kind of obvious, and I couldn’t think of anything that would fit her more. Her mother is an Elf, and her father is a Human.

Nurf - Minotaur/Dragon

Minotaur!Nurf just fits, so does Dragon!Nurf. I like the idea of an angry Nurf preparing to charge while snorting fire out of his nose.

Ered - Selkie/Vampire

I haven’t figured out how Ered’s dads fit in, but I always wanted her to be a Selkie. I love Selkies, I don’t know why, I just do, and I feel like it’s a good fit for her. I went through other ideas for the second kind, but ultimately decided on Vampire. I realize I have quite a few blood-suckers in this.

Preston - Satyr/Human

Okay so I know a popular choice for Preston is Unicorn, but I never understood why. Satyrs are always connected to fertility and sexual desire, yes, but they’re also featured in ancient Greek theatre. There used to an entire genre of Satyr plays, but now there is only one complete play remaining.

Harrison - Wizard

Also pretty self explanatory. In this au, a Wizard is a human from non-magical origins who is either born with magic or gains magic in life (as opposed to a Witch, who are distantly related to fairies and demons). I can get into the difference between Witches and Wizards some other time.

Space Kid - Changeling

I had a lot of trouble with Space Kid. I know a lot of people put him as an alien, and I get that, but I personally feel like it doesn’t fit him. I originally wanted him to be a creature that could never get to space, just to make his obsession with it more meaningful, but then the fact that his character is related to a real life person showed some complications. I thought about having him also present as a Wizard, but then got the idea of him being a Changeling (which also brought in some angsty ideas for my boy).

Gregg - Dwarf/Bigfoot

I didn’t know what to do with the older counselors, which led to this. Basically I chose this just for laughs. He’s half of one of the smallest creatures in folklore, and half of a cryptid that’s known for being large.

Darla - Adlet/Melusine

Somehow, I actually put thought into Darla, as opposed to my joking around with Gregg. First I was going to have her be some kind of Yokai, but then that had so many options that I felt didn’t work. I’ve seen her portrayed as a mermaid, and while I like that, I feel that mermaids are kind of tricky to use.

An Adlet is a race of creatures in Inuit mythology from Greenland. Adlets are basically people with human bodies and dog legs, the lower part being canine and upper part being human.

The Melusine is a water spirit from fresh water that’s much like a Mermaid. From waist up, the Melusine is a woman, but from waist below she is a serpent or fish. Sometimes the Melusine is depicted with having wings or two tails, or even both. The Melusine has also been called a Fairy.

Sasha - Dryad

Originally Sasha was a Nymph, but I wanted to give her a bit more. I wanted at least one of the Flower Scouts to be a Dryad, same as Nikki, and that just ended up going to Sasha.

Erin - Samodiva

Also fitting in with the Flower Scouts, a Samodiva is a Slavic nature spirit related to woodland fairies or nymphs.

Tabii - Pixie

Originally Tabii was going to be a more specific kind of nature spirit, but I ended up choosing Pixie for her due to her behavior. Pixies are mischievous and childlike, which I feel fits Tabii.

Pikeman - Rå, Bergsrå

God Pikeman was difficult at first, mostly because I was trying too hard and had a more difficult idea for the Woodscouts.

Don’t be confused with the Egyptian God Ra (note the little diacritic ring). A Rå is a spirit in Norse mythology that protects a certain land. There are different kinds of Rå: Skogsrå, Huldra, Sjörå, Havsrå, and Bergsrå. Skogrså and Huldra are connected to the forest but they’re female, Sjörå and Havsrå are freshwater and saltwater respectively, and Bergsrå are connected to mountains. I couldn’t have Pikeman be a Skogrså or Huldra, and it wouldn’t make sense to have his landform be water, so I decided on Bergsrå, which also ended up matching with Petrol, albeit unintentionally.

I...don’t really have much to say here. I’m still not even fully happy with my decision, but I can’t be bothered much more than this.

Snake - Tiyanak

Originally I was going to make another joke by matching Snake with a Multo (the spirit of a dead person looking for justice) for a voice actor joke. I don’t remember why I changed it, but at this point I don’t want to think too hard on the Woodscouts.

A Tiyanak is a demon from Philippine mythology that is formed from the soul of an unbaptized, dead baby.

Petrol - Troll

I settled on Troll pretty fast, compared to the other Woodscouts at least, and it ended up matching with Pikeman unintentionally; Bergsrå live in mountains either with their relatives or with trolls.

Daniel - Demon

Self explanatory. I’ll probably have him be a specific kind of Demon once I flesh out the different kinds a bit more.

Jen - Demon

Also self explanatory. If I end up making Daniel a specific kind of Demon, Jen will probably end up being the same.

Bonquisha - Satyress

A Satyress is basically the female version of a Satyr. I chose this mostly due to the shirts Bonquisha wears, and lack of better ideas.

Katie (Waitress) - Faun

Okay, I don’t know why, but when I was making this list this just came out and I just can’t bring myself to change it so yeah. Katie is the waitress from the Bonquisha episode, and Katie is just the name that came to me. I feel like she’d be a cute little faun with all those freckles.

Was hit with an au idea yesterday. Sadly, I can't write for shit but I just HAVE TO TALK ABPUT IT

So uh... dca au. Sun and moon are creatures from norse mythology. More specifically a sjörå and a skogsrå (basically 'evil' nymphs, sjö meaning lake and skog meaning forest.) YN being either a human or a källrå (källa meaning spring or well in this case) and ending up lost in the forest, wandering away from their village (... or pond) on accident, and ends up seduced by them.

I was trying to link the English wikipedia pahes, but they're really short and don't actually say much about the nature of the myths, but I'll do my best to quickly translate the important stuffz

The skogsrå (also known as the forest maiden or Råndan), is mostly a beautiful humanoid, but has some animalistic features, usually deer hooves and a tail. They often seduce men and women who end up lost in the forest, but they might drive the humans who disrespect her or the creatures (animals and the more magical beings, such as fairies) mad, making them walk in circles until they drop dead from exhaustion. Those who have once been seduced by a forest maiden will forever wish to return to the forest as their chests ache for the mysterious creature, and those who anger one either die mysteriously or end up extremely sick. It is said that the only way to kill a forest maiden is to shoot them with a silver bullet.

The sjörå (aka. the Nixa/Nikse or lake maiden) is basically the same thing, except they live in lakes. They are scared of steel, but are generally less aggressive then the forest maidens. On the other hand, they are more desperate for human contact and will frequently pull humans into their lakes, only to find out their lovers cannot breathe under water. They do not kill humans out of spite, but rather out of either through tragic accident or hunger. Unlike the mermaid, the sea maiden does not have a fish tail, but rather scales on their back and long dark, green hair.

(Källrå (water fairies, spring trolls or pondfly) are the friendliest in the rå subtype, being afraid of humans most of the time, and only harming if it is first harmed, recemble short humans with frog like features. They are the only rå that never seduce humans. Every water fairy watches over a pond each, the ponds they watch over being said to have healing properties. If one spots a large frog near a pond, that was believed to be the creature in animal diguise, hiding from the humans who come to drink from the pond. The water was also said to show glimpses of the future. You had to be careful not to look for too long though, as the källrå might get mad at you, thinking you are judging them, and stealing your reflection.)
